Bring the boots out of storage and place them in a dry well ventilated area out of direct sunlight that might fade the leather. This should kill any mold or mildew that is causing the musty odor.
Make sure to check if the mold is coming off.
How to get mildew smell out of leather boots. Spray the inside of the boots with an odor eliminator spray. Another way to eliminate mildew odor is to put items in a plastic container with a dry odor absorbing product or a box of baking soda. In the morning or just before wearing them spill all the baking soda out of the boots.
Leave the container sealed for a week to help absorb the smell. Moisten a cloth in this mixture and wipe down the outside of the boots. Take out the shoes remove the soap residue with a clean damp cloth and set them aside to dry.

Lightly sprinkle baking soda over any leather surface and then vacuum it after approximately 20 minutes. Mix one part rubbing alcohol and one part lukewarm water in a small bowl. Do not try this method on leather shoes.
Do it on daily basis and the smell won t occur. Next dip a cotton rag in the soapy water wring it out and scrub your leather following the grain. If this is not quick that means you should insist more scrubbing again but with a new rag.
In a bucket mix together 4 cups of lukewarm water and 2 drops of liquid dish soap. Just sprinkle some of it along with some cornstarch in the work boots before going to bed and leave it overnight.
