Tue 24 jul 2012 21 39 12 gmt hello all when we remodeled the painters used our new stainless steel sink to wash their paintbrushes but they did not wash it all out and the paint dried on what can i use to get it off without harming the finish. If you re trying to remove the paint you can use solvents though.
Pour a small amount of turpentine onto a cloth and dap the area of the stainless steel that is covered in the oil based paint.
How to get paint out of stainless steel sink. An acrylic sink is the low cost alternative to stainless steel as well as granite and some other materials. Apply another coat of solvent to remove lingering paint. For added conditioning you can dampen a corner of a clean paper towel or soft cloth with a small amount of olive oil and buff lightly into the stainless steel surface.
Rinse the spot with water. When you are finished with the paint removal it s best to rinse the sink completely with water and pat it dry. If you have dried bathroom sink paint or you need to remove paint from stainless steel sinks then you don t want to use abrasive materials or techniques.
Just make sure to test them before you apply them in a highly visible area. Rinsing with water and patting dry with clean paper towels between each use is a good maintenance tip as well. Rinse the bleach off the stainless steel with room temperature water.
Wipe the solvent and loosened paint from the sink with wads of paper towels. The acrylic sink is easy to clean and maintain but unlike the other materials paint has a habit of staining them. This will damage the sink in the long run.
If you fail to wipe away spilled paint right away it can adhere to the acrylic sink which will leave an unsightly paint stain. Continue rubbing the area until the paint becomes loose. Rub the cloth against the area where the paint was in slow circular motions for 30 seconds.
If you want to make your sink shine again put some olive oil on a cloth and buff the stainless steel lightly. This is also good for maintaining your sink even without the paint spill in it. Spilt paint on a stainless steel sink can be rinsed away relatively easy especially latex paints if the spill is cleaned up before the paint can dry.
Let the stainless steel air dry. Apply scratch free household sink bleach to a water moistened cloth.
